Celebrating 143 Years of LCFS

On February 4, 2026, LCFS celebrated our 143rd year of caring for children and families in need of love and support.

I know, I know!  143 years does not sound very new.  But many of you already know what God can do with what we bring him.  Through the years here at LCFS, Executive Directors, Board members, staff, supporting congregations, and yes, even, residents and families served, have placed their trust in God’s guidance to see what new things he brings out of the old.

Back in 1883, the Lutheran community created an orphanage to care for those in need.  Eventually, an adoption program was added.  As the SEED Team makes our liaison visits, we often meet people who want to share their stories of adopting their child or being adopted themselves through LCFS.  It is such a pleasure to see their joy and appreciation.

Over time, we developed other ministries to help support the acute needs of families in the community.  A thrift store and The Sharing Place were mid-20th century additions.  The Sharing Place, with the Silver Box delivery service, continues to grow and serve thousands each month.

When LCFS established our partnership with Community Health Network just over a dozen years ago, we were able to expand our reach into the community.  New programming since then includes INSPIRE, Home Based Therapeautic Services, IMPACT, and Pando Aspen Grove apartments.

God continues to lead and equip those who serve him here at LCFS.  He also continues to inspire and strengthen people like you to help in so many ways – in time, talent, and treasure. Because of this, we are confident that the next generations will be able to celebrate 150, 175, and even 200 years of caring for children and families in need of love and support through LCFS.
