Kerry has been volunteering with The Sharing Place since January 2018. She first became involved by delivering donations from her church, Geist Christian Church, each Monday. After doing this for several years, she increased her volunteer involvement when the pandemic began, stepping in to help during a time when many volunteers were unable to serve.
During those challenging two years, she spent much of her time behind the scenes stocking shelves and preparing pre-packaged food boxes for drive-through distribution. She witnessed and supported many operational changes as The Sharing Place adapted its services, gradually transitioning from distributing pre-packed boxes, to limited in-person shopping in the client lobby, and eventually to the fully revamped shopping area used today!
Over the years, she has also volunteered with the SilverBox program and partnered with Gleaners through The Sharing Place to deliver food to neighbors’ homes. In addition, she has helped pick up donations from Midwest Food Bank using the van and from local grocery stores.
Her favorite part of volunteering is organizing, cleaning, and tidying spaces. Today, she often spends her volunteer hours helping with these tasks on weekends or after hours, ensuring The Sharing Place remains welcoming and well-organized for both volunteers and clients.
